Union Booking Photos and Records
North Carolina Chapter 132 broadly defines public records to include government photographs and electronic records. That supports asking Union County for an existing booking image. It does not mean every image must be posted online or disclosed in every setting. Criminal investigation records can be treated differently, while listed arrest information remains public under state law. The custodian must classify the requested image.
G.S. 15A-502 governs photographing and fingerprinting in specified booking circumstances. It identifies the function of a booking photo but creates no universal online gallery or permanent publication duty. A photo can stay in an agency record after release even when the person disappears from the current roster.
The image alone answers very little about what happened next. Keep the person's booking date, agency, source, and date viewed beside any photo. Confirm release separately through P2C's Release Date, the preserved jail record, VINELink, or an agency statement.
A current image control does not create a historical archive. Once an event leaves the live inquiry, the photo may still exist in the agency's files even though its public person page is gone. The right next step is a record request tied to the event, not a claim that absence means deletion.
Where Union Released Mugshots Appear
Union County has several possible photo channels, but none guarantees coverage of every released person. Start with the agency that created the record. Treat later copies as secondary and do not infer current custody from an old image.
A source label matters because similar portraits can represent different events. UCSO creates a county booking image. NCDAC may display a state correctional image. The SBI registry uses a photo for a limited statutory registry, while a press graphic may combine a booking photo with text added for one news story. Keep those records separate. If two images differ, that does not by itself show an error. Compare the agency, capture date, event date, and identifier before asking the source custodian to correct its record.

Union P2C Mugshot Search
The official UCSO Inmate Inquiry accepts first and last name. Results can show Name, race, sex, age, Primary Charge, Arrest Date, Booking Agency, and a Details or image control. Match the arrest date and agency before opening an image. Names alone can point to the wrong person or the wrong booking.
P2C is current-custody oriented and has no released-person filter. Its detail schema includes Image and Release Date, but UCSO publishes no record-retention window. Save the official source and observation date when an event is still visible. If the record drops from P2C, use the records request route rather than concluding that the booking photo no longer exists.

The displayed person URL is transient. Use the layout to understand the fields, not as a durable link to an individual record.
Request a Union Booking Photo
The Union County records portal is the formal route after a P2C image disappears. Request the image created for the specific booking, not a custom gallery or list. A narrow request helps staff locate the right existing file and separates the county image from a state corrections or registry photo.
- Give the full name and known aliases. Add the booking date, facility, and booking or incident number when available.
- Ask for the booking photograph from that event in its existing electronic format.
- If release verification is also needed, separately request the recorded release date and time, disposition or last movement, and releasing facility.
- Ask the County to advise before a charge is incurred. No fixed Union booking-photo fee was found.
- If access is denied, ask for the legal basis and whether a public part can be separated from protected material.
- Preserve the response, source agency, event date, and image file metadata supplied by the custodian.
Union processes public-record requests in order and promises no fixed number of days. For qualifying extensive work, the County can charge $40 per hour after the first four collective staff hours, plus copy costs, with an estimate and prepayment. It does not have to create or compile a record that does not exist.
When both the image and proof of release are needed, keep them as separate requested items. The booking photograph identifies the visual record from intake. The release sheet or movement entry records what happened at the end of the custody event. Union Photo Sources Beyond P2C
NCDAC OPI may carry an offender image for a person with state correctional history. It is a state-custody image, not proof of a Union jail booking. Search by offender number when possible and reconcile the identity and event history. A person who posted bond after a Union arrest and never entered DAC custody may not have an OPI record at all.
The NC Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry can display a photo for qualifying registrants. It is limited by law. Not every released person must register, some records are excluded, and the registry cannot establish the date someone left the Union jail. Report errors to the appropriate official agency.
VINELink can carry an agency-supplied image depending on the record and feed, but its core value is custody status and notification. Local reporting or third-party copies may retain older photos. Those copies can be stale, mislabeled, or stripped of the booking date. No commercial mugshot or data-broker URL is needed when official P2C, records requests, agency news, NCDAC, and the limited registry channels are available.
When a secondary copy is the only image found, use it only as a lead back to the official event. Check whether UCSO, NCDAC, the registry, or the Clerk can confirm the underlying record. A reposted portrait cannot supply a release reason, final case outcome, or present status.
Union Mugshot Removal and Expunction
North Carolina court guidance describes expunction as destruction of a criminal record by court order. Eligibility depends on the charge, outcome, prior record, and governing law. Begin with the Judicial Branch expunction process and the Union County Clerk for a Union case. If an order has been granted but an official state or local system has not updated, contact that custodian with the order details.
No enacted North Carolina booking-photo-specific anti-pay-to-remove law was found as of the research date. Bills proposed in 2023 and 2025 did not become current law. Their proposed time limits and removal terms must not be stated as rights. For an inaccurate official image or caption, contact the agency that published it and identify the exact record, URL, booking date, and requested correction.
Expunction can direct state and local custodians to remove qualifying records, but it does not justify guessing about an absent result. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, or confidential material should not be reconstructed from other copies.
Union Sheriff App Photo Limits
The official UCSO OCV mobile app is documented as an outreach tool. Research verified that the app exists, but did not verify a working released-person search, mugshot gallery, or release window. User comments about features are not enough to promise official coverage.
The app listing confirms the channel, not a particular photo function.
Use P2C or a records request for a Union booking image. Use the app only for the functions visible in the installed version, and verify release through the originating custody record.
Note: An official app can be genuine even when a specific release or photo feature has not been verified.
Union News Preserves Some Mugshots
UCSO's selective press archive is a distinctive persistent photo source. A February 2026 official UCSO news item retained a booking-photo graphic and also stated that the person met bond conditions and was no longer in custody. The image and the release statement appear in the same agency record, which makes that event easier to interpret.
This does not make the press archive a complete list of Union County released mugshots. News posts cover selected cases. Most booking events receive no article, and an older story does not establish present custody or appearance. Read the publication date, booking date, agency statement, and later custody record together.
